Hello Laura! This is good so far, but you must make sure that you have written at least 500 words. You also need to proofread and spellcheck your work before posting - you may find it helpful to type your ideas in Word first and use the spellchecker before adding what you have written to the blog.

hey i remeber reading some thing on the internet about 1 in 4 people have mental health issues in todays society- which could maybe link to Stellas mental state. Also how the smoking ban in public might not be taken seriously and people will ignore it- the whole Dot smoking in the laundrette issue (she wont stop smoking whilst working).
The soap I will be studying for my independent study in Eastenders. My choice for this is that I am interested in the soaps. I watch Eastenders quite a lot; therefore I have a good knowledge of the today and wider issues such as other soaps. This means I can relate Eastenders to other soaps and see the positive and negative things about it.
Eastenders is a fictional drama soap about a small community living in East London. The soap was originally screened as two hours a week however today Eastenders is screened four times a week making four hours. There is also an omnibus on Sunday showing every episode of the weeks. The different issues which I will cover are kidnapping. In particular a recent series of episodes involving Dawns pregnancy. She agreed to sell her baby to Dawn and Rob, (a man she had an affair with). However gets back with Rob and thinks they will be a happy family. They go away to Rob’s parent’s house where May is waiting for Dawn to give birth so that rob and her can have a baby. May even threatens to induce Dawn and cut the baby out of her womb. By analysing this I will be looking at class as May was a middle class business woman, whereas Dawn was a working class single mum. This challenges stereotypes as you do not expect someone of middle class to act in this way. It also shows that women are some what inferior over men in society nowadays as they do whatever the woman tells them. Eastenders also includes family issues such as having a long lost brother or sister, finding out they have a different mum or dad or even finding out that one of your parents are having an affair. There are a variety of different ages in Eastenders which is an advantage as it brings different personalities to the soap such as young, fun Stacey Slater, (Lacey Turner) then there is someone complete different such as Dot Cotton, (June Brown). The different ages brings different issues such as with Lacey Turner teenage pregnancy as well as getting with, “an older man”, (Max Branning). On the other hand Dot Cotton brings issues to do with smoking. This is done at a time when the smoking ban into place. This has touched on very contemporary issues which a lot of people in England will be able to relate to. Dot cotton is always seen to be smoking wherever she likes, and for a lot of people they will be able to relate to Dot in her struggle to come to terms with not being able to smoke wherever anymore.

Although Eastenders revolves around true life, there are only a small number of scenes. Soap operas tend to keep scenes to a minimum, however they include every day places, For example, Eastenders in shown in Albert Square; a Victorian square of terraced houses, the Queen Vic,(Pub, now newly decorated) , a street market, and various small businesses such as: The laundrette, Beales plaice, (fish and chip shop), The archers (Garage) , the doctor surgery, The Mini Mart (corner shop), The Café, The bookies, The hall, (where people go to dance), the car lot, the allotment. These are all places where people can meet up and create a lot of drama in several places.
Maybe you could elaborate on the issues of single parenting with Dawn, and adoption relating to May and Rob :)
