For my independant study I have decided to look at the channel 4 series Sugar Rush (2005). I am going to focus on the controversial issues addressed in this comedy drama, such as sexuality and alcohol and drug abuse. The TV show is aimed at teenagers and young adults ,the dvd is certified 18 and contains strong language and scenes of a sexual nature. The show is an adaptation of the book of the same name by Julie Burchill.
The main character,Kim, is a lesbian secretly in love with her best freind, Sugar. She is struggling to come to terms with the situation and control her urges to get close to Sugar. Meanwhile, Sugar and everyone else are unaware of the situation, including Kim's mum, dad and younger brother. Kims mum, Stella is having an affair with the decorator and her brother often paints himself blue and wears a space helmet. Her family life is very disfunctional and this leads her to turn to alcohol.
Kim and Sugar binge drink and smoke both cigarettes and marijuana. This abuse even leads to rape and crime. Sugar often steals and ends up stabbing a man trying to attack her.
Alot of serious topics occur in this series and I plan to examine how these issues are addressed.

This is a good start, Laura, but it is very short! You need to decide which episodes you are going to focus on - I would recommend that you choose three maximum. You need to make sure that you are drawing on the Key Concepts.
Representation of sexuality:
