Representations of Wales and Welsh people

In my presentation I am going to be looking at the representations of Wales and Welsh people.

I will be looking at:

• Brecon Five vodka advert.
• Welsh Pot Noodle advert.
• Rhys Ifans character Spike in Notting Hill.
• Daffyd ‘The only gay in the village’ from Little Britain.
• Elliot Bevan in Hollyoaks

I will also look at different nationalities perceptions of Wales and Welsh people.

Remember to talk to Huw Morgan (Art), Christ Thomas (English) and Glenda Gardiner (Assistant principal) as they may be able to give you lots more exmaples - especially of older texts.

Read the post on this blog about The Sixth Finger:

This 17-page article is very helpful:
Transitions and Transformations: Film in Wales in the 1990s. (It's a pdf on the internet).

Young Welsh actors: Michael Sheen, Ioan Gruffudd, Rhys Ifans, Ieuan Rhys, Matthew Rhys and Rufus Sewell
Older generation: Anthony Hopkins and Sian Phillips.

The French and Saunders Sketch about Catherine Zeta Jones is very funny, and uses welsh sterotypes.
