Rock music has always been around, but Rachael Hunt and I are going to discuss Rock styles in the media. Epecially how Emo's and Goths are portrayed. Before discussing media texts we are going to discuss the effect Alternative cultue has had socially.
For our specific media texts we are going to use School of Rock and the most recent series of Rock school.
We are also going to talk about The osbournes as a reality portrayal of Goths and the more gothic life style.
Finally in terms in media texts we are going to look at the portrayal of Emos and Goths in soaps and TV Dramas, like Hollyoaks and Coronation Street.
We Shall also talk about Kerrang and NME magazine and the different audiences they aim them at.
Finally we'll talk about how even children Television has certain characters in their programs who are clearly gothic or emo, for example "Young Dracula" and "Bear Behaving Badly".

This sounds interesting so far. Remember that your case study needs to cover the last 40-50 years, so you will need to find some older texts. You will also need to define your terms carefully.
It may be helpful to research the origins of rock music. There are also some interesting texts about rock music and romanticism:
http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1G1-5114794.html
These books discuss the myth of "live fast, die young, leave a good looking corpse" that comes from the romantic period in literature with artists such as Percy Bysshe Shelley, John Keats and Lord Byron.
This can then lead you on to look at the importance of imagery connected with death in rock music and its subgenres.
